According to 5 Eyewitness News, Somers passed away peacefully at her home in the early hours of October 15, just a day before her 77th birthday. She courageously survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years.
Somers is survived by her ‘blended family,’ including her husband Hamel, her son Bruce, aged 57, her stepchildren – Stephen and Leslie, and her six cherished grandchildren.”
