In an interview with Channels TV’s Politics, the human rights activist, Falana voiced his concerns about the role of the judiciary in determining election outcomes.
He expressed that while the Supreme Court’s recent judgment concluded the presidential election contest, it did not necessarily endorse the conduct of the election by INEC.
Falana emphasized the need for Nigeria to make significant progress in ensuring credible, acrimony-free elections that all citizens can be proud of. He stressed that even with the judgment, the country has a long way to go in this regard.
Furthermore, he argued that the judiciary should not have the responsibility of determining election winners. Instead, this duty should be the exclusive domain of INEC if proper election procedures are followed.
Falana called for an end to the current state of affairs, which he viewed as a disgrace in terms of election conduct.
In summary, Falana raised concerns about the judiciary’s role in determining election winners and stressed the importance of INEC’s responsibility in conducting free and fair elections.
