The much-anticipated Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour, commencing on Thursday, 2 November in Pretoria, will be without one key Springbok player.
Marvin Orie, a talented lock for the Springboks, has made the challenging decision not to join the parade.
According to the SA Rugby Facebook page, Orie has opted to return to his recently acquired French club, Perpignan, who find themselves struggling at the bottom of the Top 14 standings.
In a display of unwavering commitment to his club, Orie chose to forgo the celebrations in South Africa, instead immediately heading back to Perpignan to help his team overcome their ongoing winless streak.
Perpignan has endured a challenging start to the season, losing all four of their matches thus far. Their next encounter will be at home against seventh-placed Toulon on Saturday, 4 November, at 18:00 (SA time).
Marvin Orie, who played a limited role during the Springboks’ triumphant Rugby World Cup campaign, only featured in the pool matches against Tonga and Romania. Notably, a total of 35 players contributed to the Springboks’ successful 2023 Rugby World Cup victory.
As the Trophy Tour unfolds, it remains uncertain whether the other 34 will all participate in the celebration.
