In a culinary feat of endurance, Alan Fisher, an Irish chef based in Japan, has set a new world record for non-stop cooking.
Reports from BBC News states that he spent an astonishing 119 hours and 57 minutes in his Irish-themed restaurant in Matsue, as confirmed by Guinness World Records (GWR).
This remarkable achievement surpasses the previous record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who had cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes earlier this year.
Hilda Baci’s record had garnered significant attention in Nigeria, inspiring others to attempt unusual record-breaking feats, from continuous crying to singing.
She expressed her original motivation as putting herself, Nigeria, and young African women on the world map.
Alan Fisher acknowledged the inspiration he drew from past record holders, including Lata and Hilda Baci.
During his marathon cooking session, he peeled an astounding 300kg of potatoes, sharing the challenges he faced as fatigue set in.
What’s even more astonishing is that after his cooking marathon, Fisher continued to break the non-stop baking record with an additional 47 hours and 21 minutes. In total, he produced 357kg of soda bread and an impressive 3,360 portions of food.
Hilda Baci responded gracefully to losing her record, extending her congratulations to Alan Fisher and expressing gratitude for the honor of holding such a prestigious record.
