On Wednesday, November 8, President Bola Tinubu is set to unveil a cutting-edge electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System along with a Geospatial Data Repository.

This development was announced on Monday, November 6 by the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Nasir Kwarra, highlighted the portal’s potential to enhance civil registration and vital statistics systems in Nigeria.

Kwarra emphasized the collaboration between the commission and the United Nations Children’s Fund in creating the eCRVS Operational Readiness Assessment Report. This report showcases the transformative potential of digital technologies in consolidating data from various sources securely and cost-effectively, thereby contributing to the Sustainable Development Goal.

The innovative eCRVS system is established through a Public Private Partnership with Barnksforte Technologies Limited. It aims to digitize all civil registration processes, including birth registration, stillbirth registration, birth attestation, adoption, marriage notification, divorce notification, migration, and death records. This digital approach represents a significant departure from traditional paper-based methods and promises to revolutionize the recording and analysis of vital events in the country.

Furthermore, as part of the preparations for the first digital Census in Nigeria, geospatial data covering a wide range of themes and total national coverage were captured using Geographic Information System technology. President Tinubu will also introduce this repository database for use by both the public and private sectors in Nigeria.

Additionally, the CRVS National Coordination Committee will be inaugurated as part of this initiative.
