The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, have declared the candidate of the All Progressive Congress APC as the winner of the November 11, election in Kogi state.
Ododo won the election, pulling a total vote of 446, 237, leading his closest rival the candidate of the Social Democratic Party SDP Murtala Ajaka who pulled 259, 052 votes to come second with Sen. Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP scoring 46, 362 votes.
The Chief Returning Office made the announcement in Election Collation Center in Lokoja Sunday night, declared Ododo winner and hereby returned him elected.
The Sunday’s declaration now made a nullity of INEC’s earlier announcement that supplementary elections would be held in dozens of polling units where irregularities were discovered.
The Governor-elect Usman Ododo in his Acceptance speech, which was preceded by that of his boss the incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello.
Yahaya Bello appreciated President Bola Tinubu, the party’s National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, the Attah of Igala, the Kogi elders and APC stakeholders for their support, he finally appreciated his family for their support and patience all through his tenure as governor, stating that he is finally coming home.
On the other hand, the governor-elect Ododo appreciated the governor for his support, and urge him that it is not time to retire yet, because his ideas and leadership qualities is still needed as he will serve as a Critical Stakeholder in the politics and governance of Kogi state in the future. He then enjoin his fellow contestants to join hand with him to move Kogi state forward because that is the only state they have
A total of 18 candidates took part in the election.
