In a recent development, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has instructed its members to partake in the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, effective from Monday midnight.
The directive, conveyed in a circular signed by ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke, emphasizes solidarity with Nigerian workers and the union’s commitment to the cause.
The strike, triggered by the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero, is slated to persist until governmental responsibility is acknowledged, as announced by TUC President Festus Osifo.
Compliance with the strike has been urged across various affiliated unions, including ASUU, as detailed in a joint letter from NLC and TUC leadership.
The situation arose following the reported mistreatment of Ajaero during a workers’ protest in Imo State, prompting the call for widespread action.
