The South African Football Association (SAFA) has withdrawn its bid to host the 2027 women’s World Cup, opting to focus on preparing a well-thought-out bid for the 2031 tournament.
SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao emphasized the importance of presenting a comprehensive bid for the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup rather than rushing the process.
The remaining candidates for 2027 include combined bids from Brazil, Mexico, and the United States, as well as a joint bid from Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands.
The FIFA Congress is set to announce the host for the 2027 Women’s World Cup on May 17, 2024.
In 2023, Spain emerged victorious in the women’s event hosted by Australia and New Zealand, while the 2026 men’s World Cup is slated to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
