The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has strongly denounced the ongoing turmoil in Sierra Leone and urged the apprehension and legal action against those involved.
In a statement on November 26, ECOWAS reiterated its stance of “zero-tolerance for unconstitutional change of government,” expressing unwavering support for Sierra Leone in advancing democracy and good governance.
The condemnation follows reports of a plot to acquire arms and disrupt peace in Sierra Leone, prompting ECOWAS to call for the arrest and prosecution of all implicated individuals.
The Sierra Leone government declared a nationwide curfew on November 26 after a security breach at Wilberforce barracks involving an attempted break-in to the military armory by unidentified individuals.
