In a Tuesday morning incident, a small plane crash-landed on a highway in Brooklyn Park near the intersection of West Broadway Avenue and Bottineau Boulevard/County Road 81.
The Brooklyn Park Police Department reported that the crash occurred at 10:32 a.m., less than three miles away from Crystal Airport.
The small-engine plane collided with a southbound vehicle on County Road 81.
The vehicle’s 32-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The 23-year-old pilot, experiencing minor injuries, received on-site treatment.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the plane, owned by Thunderbird Aircraft Company, encountered a mechanical issue while approaching Crystal Airport, leading to a loss of power.
Attempting an emergency landing on the highway, the plane hit overhead power wires before crashing into the vehicle.
County Road 81 was temporarily closed for investigation but has since reopened.
Although power outages were reported in the vicinity, services have been restored.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NSTB) are actively conducting an investigation into the incident.
