Starting February next year, passengers arriving in the country won’t need to engage with immigration personnel at international airports, according to Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The implementation of e-gates, beginning with the installation at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, will facilitate this change.
Additionally, the minister highlighted the successful clearance of 204,232 passport backlogs, with an additional 50,000 cleared within two weeks and five days, following his directive to the Nigerian Immigration Service.
The announcement was made during the opening of the renovated e-arrival wing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, sponsored by Shell Petroleum Development Company.
The e-gate system aims to eliminate direct contact with immigration officers through advanced passenger information and pre-profiling, aligning with international practices.
