On Sunday night, hundreds of Delta Air Lines passengers destined for Detroit found themselves in a remote Canadian military barracks after their flight, Delta Flight 135, encountered mechanical issues.
The Airbus 330, en route from Amsterdam to the US with 270 customers, three pilots, and seven flight attendants, made an unexpected detour to Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Newfoundland and Labrador due to reported problems with deicing equipment.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
Passengers stayed overnight in military barracks, and Delta, facing crew duty time issues and airport conditions, arranged food, accommodations, and compensation, while sending additional aircraft to bring customers to their final destination on Monday.
