Montross’ family (Laura, Sarah, Andrew, and Megan) has announced the passing of Eric on Sunday at his Chapel Hill home, surrounded by loved ones.
Diagnosed with cancer in March 2023, Eric, a former UNC basketball player, contributed to the Tar Heels’ 1993 national championship and earned first-team All-ACC honors in the same year.
Following his collegiate career, he was drafted ninth overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1994 NBA draft, playing nine seasons and achieving All-Rookie second team recognition.
Subsequently, Montross served as a radio analyst for the Tar Heels for 18 years.
