Emmanual Ijewere, the former President of the Institute of Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, has passed away at the age of 77.
His death was confirmed by Dare Muyiwa, the Senior Manager of ICAN’s Corporate Communications Directorate.
Born on October 30, 1946, in Plateau State, Ijewere served as the 32nd president of ICAN from 1996 to 1997, making significant contributions to the accounting body.
Starting his accounting career in 1965 at Coopers & Lybrand, he later founded Ijewere & Co., a chartered accountancy firm in Nigeria, in 1979.
Throughout his career, Ijewere held leadership roles in organizations such as the Institute of Directors, Nigerian Red Cross, and National Economic Forum.
Additionally, he chaired various companies, including Best Foods Group, Computer Warehouse Group (CWG), and Gemini Pharmaceuticals.
Notably, he was a member of the Agricultural Transformation Implementation Council (ATIC) under former President Goodluck Jonathan and contributed as a resource person for the transition committee of former President Muhammadu Buhari on agriculture.
