A federal judge has mandated that former Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis is liable for over $260,000 in attorney fees and expenses due to her legal battle regarding the denial of marriage licenses to a same-sex couple.
In 2015, Davis spent time in jail for her refusal and was later ordered to pay $100,000 in damages to the affected couple. Davis’ attorneys plan to appeal the recent ruling. Despite her 2018 re-election loss, where she cited a change in Kentucky law, Davis faced criticism, with one opponent accusing the victor, Democrat Elwood Caudill Jr., of being “anti-gay.”
