Nigeria’s Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, has held discussions with Mr. Mukesh Sharma, a representative from the Indian company Jindal Steel, to strategize the establishment of a state-of-the-art steel plant in Nigeria.
This initiative stems from an agreement forged between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Jindal Steel during the G-20 summit.
President Tinubu successfully secured a Steel Investment Deal with the Indian company during the G-20 Summit in September 2023 in New Delhi, India.
Ongoing discussions with relevant government agencies aim to pinpoint the optimal location for Jindal Steel’s venture in constructing the envisioned steel plant.
Expressing appreciation, the minister thanked Jindal Group for their interest in investing approximately $5 million in Nigeria.
Mukesh Sharma, the Jindal Steel representative, outlined the group’s ambition to establish a world-class steel plant with a capacity of around five million tonnes, anticipating operations to commence in the coming years, contingent on the necessary commitments.
Sharma emphasized that once operational, the steel plant would not only meet the demands of the Nigerian market but also extend its services to West Africa, Central Africa, and European markets. He stated, “The Steel Plant, once operational, would not only serve the Nigerian market but the entire West Africa, Central Africa, and European markets.”
