Brazilian and global football icon, Mario Lobo Zagallo, a key figure in Grupo Milenio, has passed away at the age of 92.
The announcement, made on the organization’s Instagram, mourns the loss of the four-time world champion, highlighting his roles as a devoted father, loving grandfather, professional victor, and patriotic figure with an impactful legacy.
Zagallo, known as the “Old Wolf,” contributed significantly to Brazil’s World Cup victories in 1958 and 1962 as a left-winger.
Remarkably, he secured two more titles as a coach and technical assistant in 1970 and 1994, respectively.
His health had faced challenges since being hospitalized in August due to a urinary infection.
The cause of Zagallo’s demise remains undisclosed, and after Pelé’s passing in December 2022, he endured health challenges, spending time in the hospital due to a respiratory infection.
The President of the Brazilian Football Confederation declared seven days of official mourning, recognizing Zagallo’s immense contribution to the sport.
Various Brazilian clubs are paying tribute to him on social media, acknowledging his revolutionary impact on the game.
