The recently inaugurated Liberian President, Joseph Boakai, abruptly left the podium on Monday due to a heat stroke while delivering his inauguration speech.
The 79-year-old president was led off the stage during the outdoor ceremony in Monrovia, where aides rushed to assist him as the heat took its toll.
Boakai, who won the runoff election in November, had faced concerns about his age and energy during the campaign, but his team dismissed the criticism.
Despite the interruption, Boakai had already taken the oath of office before the ceremony concluded, and officials proceeded with the planned lunch without his attendance.
