In Hawaii, a homeless woman was discovered dragging a newborn by the umbilical cord on a sidewalk after giving birth, according to police.
Responding to reports, medics found the 41-year-old mother, still attached to the umbilical cord.
After cutting the cord and providing medical attention to the baby, who was initially not moving, the infant was transported to Hilo Medical Center Emergency Room.
The mother attempted to leave but was taken into custody.
The baby, now in “good condition,” is with Child Welfare Services.
The mother, pending investigation, required further hospital treatment. Charges have not been reported.
