Six individuals sustained injuries when an American Airlines plane experienced a “hard landing” at Kahului Airport in Maui on Saturday.
The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an investigation into the incident involving American Airlines Flight 271, an Airbus A320, which occurred around 2:00 p.m. local time.
The airline reported that one passenger and five flight attendants were hospitalized in stable condition and later released.
The flight, arriving from Los Angeles with 167 passengers and seven crew members, taxied to the gate under its own power.
American Airlines emphasized the aircraft’s inspection by their maintenance team and affirmed a commitment to customer and team member safety.
NBC News noted the delayed arrival, more than an hour after the scheduled touch down, and said efforts to obtain comments from Maui Police Department and Hawaii’s Department of Transportation are underway.
