British Columbia has imposed a two-year ban on new post-secondary institutions enrolling Nigerians and other international students, aiming to address “exploitive practices” in the system.
Post-Secondary Education Minister Selina Robinson highlighted instances of poor-quality education and misleading practices, emphasizing the need to protect students from misinformation.
The province also plans to establish minimum language requirements for private institutions to enhance student preparedness.
Robinson expressed concerns about students fearing repercussions for complaints and announced increased inspections to ensure standards are met, acknowledging the necessity of addressing issues within the international education system.
