Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan received a ten-year jail term for disclosing official secrets, according to his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The verdict in the Cipher case can be appealed, and the PTI plans to legally challenge what they deem a “sham case.”
Despite the sentence, Khan remains a significant political figure with a strong following and anti-establishment stance, alleging a conspiracy to sideline him.
Concerns have been raised about the fairness of the upcoming election by Pakistan’s human rights commission, citing pre-poll rigging and rejection of Khan’s candidacy.
Khan is accused of revealing a confidential document, nicknamed Cipher, during a rally, alleging a US conspiracy, which both Washington and Pakistani officials deny.
