During the 2024 Chinese New Year Temple Fair in Abuja, Chinese Ambassador Cui Jianchun expressed a commitment to work with Nigeria for economic growth and national development.
He symbolically associated each letter of the word “Dragon” with key aspects, representing development, revitalization, assistance, guidance, opportunity, and nationalism.
Ambassador Jianchun emphasized the potential for a shared community and mutual development between both countries.
The Chinese Lunar New Year, celebrated as the Year of the Dragon, signifies strength, wisdom, luck, and prosperity.
Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, commended China for showcasing its rich culture and highlighted the cultural diversity shared by both nations.
He stressed the potential for mutual learning and benefits through cultural exchanges, emphasizing Nigeria’s historical sites and the need to strengthen cultural ties with China.
Mr. James Sule, the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing the relationship with China.
The Chinese Lunar New Year, beginning on February 10, 2024, marks the Year of the Wood Dragon in the Chinese Lunar Calendar, concluding on January 28, 2025.
The celebration featured cultural dance presentations, a parade showcasing Chinese cuisines, and a raffle draw.
