President Joe Biden secured the Democratic nomination in Nevada’s presidential preference primary on Tuesday, increasing the likelihood of a 2024 rematch with Donald Trump.
Biden expressed gratitude to Nevada voters and emphasized the importance of organizing, mobilizing, and voting to safeguard American democracy.
The Associated Press declared Biden the winner at 8:39 p.m. with 14% of votes counted, reaching over 85% by midnight.
Despite a rainy Election Day, Biden garnered nearly 90% of the votes, while another Democratic candidate, Marianne Williamson, received less than 3%, and “none of these candidates” received 5.8%.
Biden, the 46th president, campaigned in Las Vegas, urging supporters to elect Democrats across the ballot.
Former President Trump, the likely GOP opponent, is expected to be confirmed as Nevada’s GOP pick for 2024 during the Republican Party’s caucuses on Thursday. Trump plans to attend a caucus watch party in Las Vegas.
Voter Patricia Donley, 78, cited Biden’s intelligent advisers, foreign affairs knowledge, and ability to bring dignity to the country as reasons for casting her ballot for him at the Nellis Shopping Center in Las Vegas.
While not thrilled about a potential Trump-Biden rematch, Donley maintains that Biden is the better choice.
