The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is convening in Abuja, Nigeria, following the departure of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic from the bloc.
The Foreign Affairs Ministers will discuss the bloc’s response to their withdrawal, as well as address the ongoing protests in Senegal due to the postponed presidential elections.
ECOWAS Commission President, Alieu Touray, revealed that the meeting will consider the departure of the three countries, which accused the bloc of posing a threat to them.
The African Union (AU) expressed regret over the withdrawal, as stated by AU President Moussa Faki Mahamat on Tuesday.
