Dries and Eugenie van Agt, both 93, passed away together in a rare case of “double euthanasia.”
The former Dutch prime minister and his wife, buried together on Thursday, had been inseparable for over 70 years.
Described as “idiosyncratic,” Dries van Agt’s left-wing shift later in life and strong stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict marked his political journey.
The phenomenon of “double euthanasia” is on the rise in the Netherlands, known for its liberal euthanasia laws, with 58 cases in 2022 out of a total of 9000 euthanasia instances.
