Last night, a small plane safely landed at Buffalo Niagara International Airport in New York after the pilot reported losing the left rear passenger door during the flight, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The single-engine Diamond DA40 aircraft, carrying two people, touched down at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time.
The FAA is currently reviewing the incident, and there were no reported injuries.
The Cheektowaga Police Department mentioned that the pilot reported losing the door over Stiglmeier Park, a few miles from the airport.
In an air traffic control recording, the pilot declared an emergency and stated, “We lost our rear door.” Despite efforts, the police have been unable to locate the fallen door.
The reason for the door detachment remains unknown, and the incident involved a non-commercial aircraft.
The plane landed at the Signature Aviation terminal at the airport.
This event occurred about a month after a door plug panel blew off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 plane on January 5, causing depressurization.
The plane safely returned to Portland for an emergency landing, with no serious injuries reported.
