Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, have declared the restoration of diplomatic ties, marking a new chapter after over a decade of strained relations.
The initial discord arose in 2013 when Sisi, then defense minister, ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, an Ankara ally.
During their recent meeting in Cairo, Erdogan and Sisi affirmed their commitment to rebuilding their relationship.
Erdogan’s visit to Egypt, the first in more than ten years, symbolizes a significant move toward reconciliation, accompanied by the signing of various bilateral agreements.
The leaders also jointly condemned Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, advocating for an immediate ceasefire and showcasing shared perspectives on regional matters.
