Nigeria and Cameroon have committed to strengthening their cross-border trade connections.

In the border town of Banki, the Governor of Borno State and officials from Cameroon’s Far Northern region met to discuss strategies for enhancing commercial activities along their shared borders.

Governor Zulum addressed journalists behind closed doors, highlighting the need to revive transborder trade, particularly in light of an upcoming international cattle market.

He stressed the urgency of addressing logistical challenges impeding smooth goods transportation between Cameroon and Nigeria.

Governor Zulum revealed plans for collaborative efforts between the Borno State Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, and the regional council of Cameroon to address emerging challenges.

Additionally, a high-level summit involving the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of Cameroon, and representatives from Borno State and the Far Northern region of Cameroon is scheduled to convene to strategize on boosting transborder trade.

Governor Mijinyawa Bakari of the Far Northern region of Cameroon echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to explore new commercial opportunities.

He hailed the groundbreaking of the international cattle market as a crucial milestone in revitalizing commerce between Nigeria and Cameroon.
