Beyoncé made history by becoming the first Black woman artist to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with her debut “Texas Hold ‘Em,” which also secured the second spot on the Hot 100.
The song surpassed Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ long-standing “I Remember Everything.” Boosted by strong streams and sales, Beyoncé’s country venture garnered attention, with her second country track, “16 Carriages,” landing at number nine.
While not the first woman of color in country music, Beyoncé’s success may bring more focus to other Black country artists.
Despite country’s predominantly white and male landscape, Beyoncé’s influence in the genre isn’t entirely unexpected, given her earlier country-infused works.
As pop increasingly embraces country, Beyoncé’s chart success adds an interesting dynamic to the evolving music scene.
