AT&T announced that its wireless network is now restored following an outage that affected cellphone service for users across the U.S.
The outage, which began around 3:30 a.m. ET, peaked at approximately 73,000 reported incidents, mainly in locations like Houston, Atlanta, and Chicago.
By 5 p.m. ET, reports reduced to around 1,200. Cricket Wireless, owned by AT&T, and users of other carriers experienced issues, with some iPhone users displaying SOS messages.
The cause remains unknown, with speculation about a cloud misconfiguration or human error.
Authorities, including the FCC, DHS, and FBI, are investigating, and Capitol Hill expresses concern.
