Press Release
The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, has received an open letter from General Yakubu Gowon, the sole surviving founding father of ECOWAS, expressing deep concern over Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger’s decision to exit the organization.
General Gowon appeals to all West African leaders, including those from the exiting countries, to unite for peace and prosperity.
He suggests lifting sanctions, withdrawal of exit notices, and convening a summit with all 15 ECOWAS Heads of State to discuss the community’s future and regional stability.
ECOWAS Commission President Touray assures that the letter will reach every Head of State, thanking General Gowon for his ongoing commitment to the Community.
