Senegal’s President, Macky Sall, announced the conclusion of his presidential term on April 2, initiating consultations for the successor’s election starting next week.
The date for the postponed presidential election remains undetermined, with consultations scheduled from Feb. 26 to potentially Feb. 27.
If consensus is not achieved, matters will be referred to the Constitutional Council.
Sall stressed that the election may take place either before or after April 2.
Earlier, he suspended the Feb. 25 election on Feb. 3, leading to protests and legal challenges, resulting in a contentious political situation.
