A Catholic priest in Italy, known for condemning the Mafia, narrowly avoided drinking from a poisoned chalice during Mass in Cessaniti, Calabria.
Rev. Felice Palamara, suspecting foul play, detected the smell of bleach in the water and wine containers.
Upon calling the police, it was revealed that the substances had indeed been laced with bleach.
Palamara believes it was a retaliation attempt by the ‘Ndrangheta crime network.
Despite receiving death threats and facing vandalism, he remains resilient, stating, “My revenge is called love, my shield forgiveness, my armor mercy.”
Other priests in the town, like Rev. Francesco Pontoriero, have also faced threats, highlighting the pervasive influence of organized crime in the region.
