The captain and copilot of an Indonesian domestic flight, carrying 153 people, unintentionally fell asleep for nearly 30 minutes, according to a report by Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
The incident took place in January during the return flight from Kendari to Jakarta.
The captain, 32, took a nap with permission from the copilot at a cruising altitude of 36,000 feet.
After waking up, the captain found the copilot asleep, and they had deviated off-course.
The plane landed safely in Jakarta, prompting safety recommendations regarding pilots’ conditions and cockpit checks.
