The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union have jointly declared a 7-day warning strike starting March 18, 2024, demanding the payment of four months’ withheld salaries following the 2022 nationwide strike.
The decision was part of the resolution after a joint action committee meeting in Akure over the weekend.
SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim conveyed the decision, stating it was a last resort after failed attempts to address the salary issue through letters and communications with the Federal Government.
The unions warned of potential lawful and stringent actions if the matter remains unresolved.
The move follows accusations of the FG treating their members with disdain despite President Bola Tinubu’s directive to pay withheld salaries.
The unions expressed their indispensability to university functioning and emphasized the need for fair treatment.
