Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday declined Nnamdi Kanu’s bail request, yet opted for an expedited trial.
During the last hearing, Alloy Ejimakor, representing Kanu, pleaded for bail citing his deteriorating health and the alleged threat to his life while in DSS custody.
Ejimakor stressed that Kanu’s prolonged detention hindered his ability to mount a robust defense.
In contrast, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), representing the FG, urged the court to deny bail and expedite the trial, highlighting the DSS’s medical facilities for Kanu’s care.
Awomolo pointed out Kanu’s previous bail violation and emphasized the absence of a sworn declaration promising not to flee if granted bail.
Nnamdi Kanu had fled Nigeria in September 2017, despite being granted bail on health grounds in April 2017.
