Nigerian sprint sensation, Tobi Amusan, clinched victory in the women’s 100m hurdles Round 1 heat at the 13th Africa Games in Ghana, clocking an impressive time of 13.03 seconds.
Her triumph secures her a coveted spot in the semifinals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing Africa Games.
However, Team Nigeria yielded the men’s and women’s 100m gold to Cameroon and Gambia, respectively, settling for silver and bronze in both events on Tuesday.
Usheoritse Itsekiri finished at 10.23 seconds in the men’s 100m, surprisingly conceding victory to Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme with a time of 10.14 seconds, while Namibia’s Hainuca Gilbert claimed bronze in 10.25 seconds. Nigeria’s Emmanuel Ekanem trailed behind, finishing fourth with a time of 10.42 seconds.
In the women’s 100m event at the Africa Games, Olayinka Olajide secured a third-place finish, earning the bronze medal with a time of 11.55 seconds, following Miriam Bittaye of Gambia who clinched gold in 11.36 seconds and Alyse Miccoy of Liberia who took silver with a time of 11.49 seconds.
