The University of Lagos (UNILAG) entrance gate became inaccessible on Wednesday due to a peaceful protest led by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAATS). The protest was sparked by delayed payment of salaries.
These unions blocked access to the school premises, expressing dissatisfaction with the Federal Government’s inaction.
NAATS members joined SSANU and NASU in the protest outside UNILAG gate.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU initiated a seven-day warning strike on Monday, March 18, resulting in halted academic activities.
NAATS joined the strike on its third day, also demanding payment of withheld salaries.
Meanwhile, the federal government has invited the protesting unions for talks on Wednesday, according to SSANU National President Muhammed Ibrahim.
