A legal dispute involving Elon Musk’s social media company, X, and a group claiming an increase in hate speech since Musk’s acquisition has been thrown out by a US judge.
X accused the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) of using unlawful methods to access its data, but the judge dismissed the case, noting X’s aversion to criticism. X plans to appeal.
Imran Ahmed, CCDH’s founder, hailed the decision as a victory against Musk’s alleged harassment.
The setback for Musk, who champions free speech, comes after X, formerly Twitter, sued CCDH in 2023, alleging biased data collection for deceptive reports.
However, Judge Charles Breyer criticized X for targeting CCDH’s speech rather than its data collection methods, suggesting X sought to suppress criticism.
Musk’s acquisition of the platform in 2022 led to controversial changes, including layoffs and accusations of anti-Semitism, which he denies.
