Former U.S. Senator and Democratic Party vice presidential nominee, Joe Lieberman, passed away at 82 in New York City due to complications from a fall, according to his family.
Lieberman, known for his integrity and dedication to public service, made history as the first Jewish candidate on a major party presidential ticket in the 2000 election.
Despite a failed bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004, Lieberman continued to serve as a centrist figure in politics.
He retired from the Senate in 2013 after four terms and remained active in political initiatives, including leading the centrist group No Labels.
Lieberman’s funeral is scheduled for Friday in his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut.
