Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the new National Coordinator for the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, operating under the Office of the National Security Adviser.
This announcement, conveyed through a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, signals a strategic shift in leadership within the Counter-Terrorism Centre.
Major-General Laka brings extensive experience to his new role, gained from various positions held in Nigeria’s North-Eastern region, where he played a pivotal role in dismantling terrorist groups.
Additionally, his international service includes missions in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the United Nations, as well as participation in the US AFRICOM exercise in Senegal as part of the Nigerian contingent.
In terms of education, Major-General Laka holds a Master’s Degree in National Security from the National Defence University in Pakistan, and another in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Ajuri Ngelale underscored President Tinubu’s high expectations for Major-General Laka, urging him to leverage his extensive expertise to effectively address security threats through preemptive, proactive, and meticulous counter-terrorism coordination efforts.
