Former South African President Jacob Zuma was involved in a car accident but thankfully emerged unscathed.
Reports suggest a drunk driver crashed into his armored state vehicle, prompting suspicions of intentional targeting by a prominent member of his party, uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK).
Zuma, suspended by the ruling African National Congress (ANC), was campaigning for MK ahead of the May presidential polls when the incident occurred in KwaZulu-Natal.
Despite the collision, Zuma and his protection team sustained no injuries, and the driver responsible has been arrested.
Musa Mkhize, MK’s elections head, voiced concerns that the crash was deliberate, citing prior warnings. Zuma, facing corruption allegations, enjoys official protection as a former president.
The accident coincides with Zuma’s ineligibility to run in the upcoming general election due to a previous jail sentence.
With polls indicating a potential decline in ANC support, the emergence of MK could further impact the political landscape, especially in KwaZulu-Natal, where Zuma wields influence.
