Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a left-wing politician, took office as Senegal’s youngest president on Tuesday following his victory in the first-round election, just 10 days after his release from prison.
“Before God and the Senegalese nation, I pledge to faithfully execute the duties of President of the Republic of Senegal,” stated the 44-year-old amidst a gathering of hundreds of officials and several African leaders at an exposition hall in Diamniadio, near the capital Dakar.
