Minnesota consumers have cause for celebration following Senator Matt Klein’s (DFL-Mendota Heights) leadership in shepherding a comprehensive Commerce and Consumer Protection policy bill through the Senate.

The omnibus package, aimed at strengthening consumer rights and fostering fairness in the market, garnered strong bipartisan support with a resounding Senate approval of 53-14.

This approval signals hope for advocates awaiting a similar endorsement from the House.

Dubbed the “Taylor Swift Bill” for its transparent ticket sales provision, the legislation championed by Senator Klein addresses concerns over deceptive marketplace practices.

The bill mandates upfront disclosure of the true cost of event tickets, curbing last-minute fee surprises.

Moreover, it cracks down on bot technology and prevents resale sites from posing as original vendors, as detailed on the official Senate DFL website.

Senator Klein’s bill extends its reach by enhancing the Student Loan Borrower Bill of Rights, simplifying unsubscription from automatic renewals, and implementing new safeguards on the sale of aerosols and vape products.

The legislation also expands prohibitions on price gouging, placing a spotlight on this issue.

Expressing enthusiasm, Senator Klein stated on the Senate DFL website, “I am proud of the work we have done this session to deliver a strong consumer protection package that will empower Minnesota consumers and promote a fairer marketplace for everyone.”

Chairing the Senate committee on this topic, Senator Klein has been vocal about his mission to shield everyday Minnesotans from predatory practices that he perceives as pervasive in the consumer landscape.

“We are also expanding protections in the Student Loan Borrower Bill of Rights, making it easier for consumers to unsubscribe from automatic renewals, creating protections around the sale of aerosol dusters and vape products, expanding price gouging prohibitions, and more,” Senator Klein added, highlighting significant progress in his legislative agenda.
