The Association of Nigerian Nurses in Minnesota held their first fundraising gala event on Saturday, April 6.
The gathering hosted at the Brooklyn Park Recreation & Parks was well-attended.
During her speech, Dr. Felicia Ikebude, the association’s president, expressed gratitude to attendees and supporters for their ongoing support. She highlighted the association’s accomplishments, notably the annual “Toys for Tots” back-to-school program benefiting over 300 children in the community.
Additionally, the association collaborated with the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANA) to establish primary health care centers in several Nigerian states, including Abia, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Ondo, and Osun, with a $6000 donation to each center.
During a keynote address by the association’s founder, Dr. Ngozi Mbibi, the origins of the association were traced back to the challenges encountered by Nigerians in the healthcare sector.
In an interview with ninaworldnews.com, Julie Sylvia, a nurse, described the event as significant, adding that she is inspired by the achievements of fellow group members, and motivated to continue progressing.
