Bazzi referenced Malcolm X’s criticism of the U.S. system and called for its elimination alongside President Biden.
He then addressed Israel, advocating for its non-existence, with attendees chanting “Death to Israel” in response.
International Al-Quds Day, observed annually on the last Friday of Ramadan, enjoys significant support in Dearborn, known for its large Muslim population.
The event has faced controversy globally, with German authorities banning it in Berlin multiple times.
Steven Stalinsky, Executive Director of MEMRI, described Dearborn as a “hotbed of hate,” noting its history of pro-Hamas and Hezbollah sentiments.
Republican state Rep. Phil Green expressed concern over extremism in Dearborn, suggesting a shift in global problems to the U.S.
The rally featured Michigan Imam Usama Abdulghani condemning Israel as a “cancer” and “evil settler colonialist project,” echoing chants of “Free Palestine” and controversial slogans.
Stalinsky emphasized a concerning trend of extremist rhetoric in Dearborn, though he clarified not everyone supports terrorism in the city.
