Israeli military intelligence chief Major General Aharon Haliva has resigned following the October 7th Hamas-led attack on Israel, accepting responsibility for intelligence failures that allowed the devastating assault.
Haliva, a 38-year veteran of the military, acknowledged the failure to anticipate and prevent the deadliest attack in Israel’s history.
He stated in his resignation letter that his intelligence division did not meet expectations and expressed profound regret over the incident.
Haliva will continue in his role until a successor is appointed.
The attack severely damaged the reputation of the Israeli military and intelligence services, which were previously considered highly capable of countering threats from groups like Hamas.
The assault involved a significant breach of security barriers around Gaza, catching Israeli forces off guard and causing havoc in southern Israeli communities.Ã¥
