Several students at Minnetonka High School have been diagnosed with pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, as confirmed in an email sent to families by the school.
The affected students were treated with antibiotics and required to stay out of school for five days, according to school officials.
Pertussis is a respiratory infection characterized by symptoms such as runny nose, nasal congestion, fever, and cough.
Even students who had received the pertussis vaccine were among those who tested positive, highlighting the potential impact of waning immunity in adolescents and adults.
