Ardi Ndembo, a heavyweight boxer from Congo, tragically passed away on Thursday after being in a medically induced coma for three weeks following his last fight.
Ndembo was knocked unconscious during his April 5 bout against Nestor Santana in Miami and was immediately hospitalized, where he remained in a coma until his passing earlier this week.
Viva Promotions, in a statement through the New York Post, expressed their sorrow over Ndembo’s loss and described him as a talented athlete.
Floyd Mayweather’s uncle Jeff, associated with Team Combat League, where Ndembo fought, acknowledged the risks inherent in boxing and emphasized that the sport, like others, carries significant dangers.
The Team Combat League honored Ndembo with a 10-bell salute and is supporting a GoFundMe campaign to assist his family, pledging to match donations up to $25,000.
Ndembo, with a record of 8-0 before the fight, leaves behind his wife and two children.
